Koryo Tours is the official co-ordinator for entry of foreign films for the Pyongyang International Film Festival. It is now held every year in Pyongyang in September/October. Koryo Tours previously invited tourists for the glitz and glamour on Pyongyang's red carpet at the opening ceremony. However, currently there are no opportunities for tourists to visit.
Please contact info@koryotours.com to be added to 'an interested in visiting' list for the chance to visit Pyongyang for the PIFF 2025.
Filmmakers who get their entries accepted into the Pyongyang International Film Festival will be permitted to attend PIFF 2025.
In previous years, Koryo Tours took tours to North Korea to attend the Pyongyang International Film Festival Opening Ceremony. During this time, Koryo Tours guests would people involved in the DPRK film industry. We also visited North Korean film shooting locations for classic North Korean films in Pyongyang and Kaesong, and learn the subtle (or often not so subtle) message and cultural significance of DRPK cinema.
Included in the tours was a special film screening of Koryo Group's co-production 'Comrade Kim Goes Flying' (2012) in Pyongyang. It included a Q%A with those involved in the film’s production and promotion.
The group would also watch Korean and international films with a local audience.
Since 2002, this annual Pyongyang International Film Festival has run as a true international festival. It welcomes films from around the world. However, previously, the event was reserved for ‘non-aligned and other developing countries’. This included; Australia, France, Canada, Malaysia, China, Iran, Pakistan, UK, Mongolia, Thailand, Germany.
Koryo Tours has worked closely with the Pyongyang International Film Festival organizers to expand and improve the range of films shown at the festival. Thus, more international films are seen by a large number of the DPRK population. Together with the British Embassy and Ealing Studios, Koryo Tours have arranged for many films from around the world to be entered in competition. The most well-known of films shown at PIFF include ‘Bend it like Beckham’ ‘Mr. Bean Disaster Movie’, ‘The March of the Penguins’, and ‘Bride and Prejudice’.
Please note that the final program of events is not released until a few days before the start of the festival.
